The funding package, jointly announced by the federal government and the Victorian state government, amounts to 19.5 million Australian dollars and is aimed at immediate response needs and early recovery measures in areas impacted by the fires.
The announcement was made as emergency services reported dozens of active fires across Victoria, with several remaining out of control amid dry conditions and shifting winds. Thousands of residents have been evacuated from regional towns and rural properties, while road closures and power outages have affected large areas.
